Educator

Teaching is at the heart of my professional life and philosophy. I am strongly committed to music education, and am an active clinician and professional development speaker. At the University of Illinois, I have taught two semesters of beginning conductor and served as a teaching assistant for several additional semesters. I also teach individual undergraduate conducting lessons.

I have recently done clinics with middle school, high school, and collegiate bands in Illinois and Indiana. If you are interested in collaborating with clinician or adjudicator work, feel free to email me!

At Discovery Middle School, I team-taught a program of 240 students. In addition to four concert ensembles and two extracurricular jazz bands, I helped run a seasonal basketball pep band, assisted with the orchestra program, and accompanied several choir concerts. In 2017, I traveled to Anshan, China as a representative for a cultural exchange program with a sister school district. I also have private lesson teaching experience with all low brass instruments and my students have made state and regional honor bands.

I served on staff with the Penn High School Marching Kingsmen, a Class A Indiana state-finalist program, as a low-brass music tech and visual tech. I also helped design and implement brass pedagogy and taught the leadership training system. I also ran an after school jazz band at Penn High School during the winter season.

While teaching, I adjudicated at several ISSMA Solo and Ensemble Contests and a High School Organizational Contest. I was also the IBA All-State Tuba judge for several years and gave a talk on the first year teaching experience for the Quinlan and Fabish Student Teacher Day.
